About Us

Gabriel’s Promise is a Haiti-based organization founded after our team uncovered a deep crisis within the orphanage system — including the exploitation and trafficking of children. Faced with this reality, we chose action. In order to avoid children being taken from their families, we built a restorative model designed to keep families together, strengthen them, and prevent vulnerability before it begins.

What emerged was a movement rooted in dignity, resilience, and community.
A pursuit to inspire change not through words, but through presence.
An organization built on bold ideas, courageous action, and unwavering support.

At our core, we are a family — a multi-generational, multi-class, deeply diverse team of Haitian leaders united by one shared commitment: to create a stronger, safer community for children and families in Carrefour.

In a place where many promises have been broken,
we remain determined to keep ours.

Our Story

Our story is rooted in faith, and a commitment made to loving God and loving others.

In 2010 our founder Dani-Jo Hill joined a Southern California church that was supporting several humanitarian efforts around the globe, including a church in Haiti.  In 2011, she traveled to Haiti on a mission trip to their partner church in Carrefour, where they visited an orphanage. During this and other visits the team noticed many red-flags indicating human trafficking was occurring at the orphanage.

With experience in anti-trafficking intiatives, and a deep commitment to living by her faith, Dani-Jo  moved to Haiti to support an organizational effort to shutdown the trafficking operation. While the efforts to close that location were successful, her experience at the orphanage exposed her to the deep rooted extent of child trafficking in Haiti. Closing this one orphanage was not a permanent solution. Dani-Jo realized a permanent solution had to be community based, community informed, and community supported. As a foreigner living in this community, she needed, and asked for, support to do the work she was called to do - and the community showed up.

Gabriel's Promise Haiti was born

Ten years later, the positive impact of Gabriel's Promise  (GP) can be seen and felt all around the community of Carrefour.  From educational programs that support all students to overcome barriers to education, to parenting courses that seek to prevent and heal generational abuse, to our sites being places of safety, Gabriel's Promise Haiti has supported, and been supported by, the community we serve.

Our promise is to the people of Haiti.

As Dani-Jo took a leap of faith and moved to Haiti, the future initiatives of GP are also rooted in leaps of faith. With the challenges*people in Haiti face, we are seeing more of our community enter the global diaspora. GP is actively engaging in ideas and action to support Haitians wherever they may be. â€‹â€‹
