When Gabriel’s Promise first began its work in Haiti, the team confronted a devastating reality: child trafficking and child slavery were affecting thousands of children, and systemic corruption made shutting down these operations nearly impossible.
Instead of battling the problem from the top down, the organization committed to a different approach — prevention.

Research and community experience made one truth clear: the most effective way to protect children from being given away or placed in vulnerable situations is education.
In response, the team identified the most at-risk children and launched Plezi Lekòl, a holistic education sponsorship program designed to keep children learning and to keep families together.

Plezi Lekòl was intentionally built to go far beyond traditional sponsorship models. Children in vulnerable communities often need more than tuition — they need stability, nourishment, structure, and daily support.
So the program covers every essential element of a child’s educational journey:

• Tuition (in partnership with local schools, strengthening them as well)

• Books, supplies, and uniforms

• Two meals a day

• A safe after-school space at the GP Center (Kay GP)

• Grade-level tutoring and academic support

• Personalized attention, especially for children who have missed years of school or live in single-parent households

The team is trained to carefully assess each child’s situation and prioritize those in greatest need. The waitlist remains long, but Gabriel’s Promise is committed to enrolling only the number of students it can fully and holistically support.
This ensures depth of impact — not just enrollment.

Once accepted, students remain in the program through graduation. Afterward, the organization continues guiding them toward meaningful futures, whether through university, trade school, or small-business development.
